Fisherpigs are an early-settlement gathering building that can harvest Fish from up to 1 School of Fish tile within their radius. Since Fish can only be harvested from naturally sources, they're primarily valued for providing food diversity (which boosts Life Quality) rather than their contribution to the Tier 1 population need for Food.
When building Fisherpigs, all School of Fish tiles in your territory will be marked with a waypoint to help with placement. In cases where they spawn too far away from land, Wooden Platforms can be used as rudimentary docks to bring your Fisherpigs within range. However, platforms first become available around the same time as Level 3 Fisherpigs.
Each upgrade for Fisherpigs allows them to harvest more Fish for the settlement, so it's strongly recommended to upgrade them as soon as the technology becomes available. For similar reasons, you should avoid building Fish Market stands (with Barter) since they have a negative impact on total Fish output. Fish Merchants can be used to sell the same goods with no production loss.

* Each School of Fish tile has a theoretical capacity of 10.0 Fish per tick, assuming you could generate enough Workforce. Gathering from tiles does not consume them over time.
