Scribes are an advanced governmental building which generates the Scribe () resource and increases your territory's Administration () by an equal amount. As the only scaling source of Administration outside of Policies, this makes them invaluable for Claiming territories and maintaining existing Claims as your capital city grows.
As a note, Scribes are paid as state workers but due to the building having to buy clay or paper as a resource, the position may not be profitable. If this is the case, you may need to enable Subvention to cover the additional cost. This is a more cost effective way than buying the Scribe () resource.
State Income[]
Indirectly, Scribes can also provide a substantial boost to Tax Revenues in any territory two possible ways:
- Under -, each point of Administration reduces waste by 1.25% in the territory (gained directly as State income)
- Under +, each point of Administration reduces waste by 0.25% in the territory (gained directly as State income). With enough Scribes employed, this benefit maxes out completely at 100 but you can continue accumulating Administration past that point.
You should examine the Tax Revenue generated in a territory before considering whether to build Scribes there, as this will determine whether the resulting percentage gain in Coins will outweigh the flat Coins cost of employing them.
