The Tool-maker is a production building available from the start of the game that uses resources like Flint to produce Hammers or Copper to produce Axes. Different tools are used throughout the eras of the game and they are all essential when constructing buildings.

Some tools are only available to produce once the corresponding Knowledge has been researched, such as Metallurgy unlocking Axes. It may also be necessary to refine the input materials in a Foundry before the Tool-maker can use them (e.g. smelting Copper ore into Copper ingots).

Although there is a 'correct' and corresponding material for all tools, like Copper for Axes, it is possible to use more advanced materials to produce simpler tools (e.g. using Bronze to produce Hoes).
